Georgia

Georgia May Jagger used to annoy me as a model. I've somehow completely forgotten why.

On blogging

It's been an awfully long time since I last wrote on this blog. I've been focusing my energy on my main fashion blog, as well as other things in my life. I do intend to continue posting here from time to time; posting on this blog feels a lot more relaxed and intimate than my fashion blog does.

I still love blogging as much as ever, but I feel that the posts I've been writing lately have been a bit gimmicky. My posts have been a bit on the trendy side with things like detachable collars, "it girl" products, cats, etc. There's nothing wrong with trendy, but I do think the writing in my recent posts have been lacking in depth. There hasn't been an awful lot of depth in my writing and I don't think I'm bringing in as much real content as I could to my posts.

Maybe it's because school has started again and I don't have as much time as I did over the summer. Maybe the current fashion month will renew my inspiration. You can never know how everything will turn out so I guess I'll just keep blogging for now. Here's a look from the Ralph Lauren S/S 13 collection:

Carrot muffins

I've become quite obsessed with carrot muffins. Unfortunately, they tend not to be as healthy as they sound.

Wisdom on reigns of terror

Today is Bastille Day. In history, it marks an important part of the French Revolution and it represents the day the mob stormed Bastille, a medieval prison and fortress in Paris. The French Revolution and the years leading up to it are a time period of great interest to me. The horrors of the revolution sadden me, but there is a quote by Mark Twain that I discovered today and I do believe it captures the essence of the situation.
“There were two ‘Reigns of Terror’, if we could but remember and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passions, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon a thousand persons, the other upon a hundred million; but our shudders are all for the “horrors of the… momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty and heartbreak? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief terror that we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror – that unspeakable bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.”
I wish to point out that it is estimated that one million people were and it is more than a few thousands and they were killed over the course of some years. On the other hand, these numbers cannot be compared to what had been happening for centuries. It can also be argued, however, that the revolution did not end the poverty gap and the poor continued to suffer in spite of all the killings. In the end, this is a topic that I have many conflicting thoughts about.

Vintage photography of the stars

There's something I find so glamourous about vintage photos and celebrities from the days of black and white. I found incredible photos of icons behind the camera lens. Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy, Grace Kelly, and Marilyn Monroe are three incredible women who have been the subject of so many photographs, which makes it all the more interesting to see a reversal of roles.

This is Diane Kruger at the Berluti Private Dinner at Paris Menswear Fashion Week. It's a simple look but she looks every inch a style icon.

Print presence

I think Kate Moss has print presence the way some actors have screen presence. Some people like her and some people don't, but I think it's undeniable that she has a presence that can hold the page. To me, that's pretty important in a model and I think a lot of the newer girls these days lack that.

Thinking about London

Source: www.britishmuseum.org
I've been really missing London, England these past days. It's been a few years since I last travelled there and the recent Jubilee excitement has made me think about it again. I distinctly remember that small and casual Italian restaurant near St. Paul's Cathedral that served amazing pasta and apple juice that tasted like real apples. I miss being able to walk into all those great museums for free. I miss being impressed by everyone's style. I miss the witty remarks from super-friendly tour guides. Maybe exams are getting to me and I just need a vacation.

It wasn't so long ago...

I miss seeing John Galliano's work filling runways and magazine spreads. This dress (and the entire collection, really) was amazing on so many levels. What he did was wrong, but he's been given his lesson and I believe in second chances. He'll be back, I'm sure of it.

Vanilla is forever

Plain vanilla ice cream has got to be one of my favourite things in the world. I bought a tub of French vanilla the other day but it just isn't the same.
